1. Ilhan regrets Kashmir not getting US attention it merits

• US Congresswoman Ilhan Abdullahi Omar on April 21, 2022 acknowledged that Kashmir dispute was not being talked about in the power centres of the United States of America at the required level, but expressed the hope that the situation would change.
• At an interaction with local media at the President House, Rep. Omar said, `On the question of Kashmir, we held a committee hearing on the foreign affairs committee to look at the reports of human rights violations and to talk about the bigger issue with the [Narendra Modi administration`s anti-Muslim rhetoric and how that`s leading to human rights violations as well.
• On the occasion, Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood was present.
• In the same breath, she added: `I don`t believe that it [Kashmir] is being talked about to the extent it needs to be, not only in Congress but also with the [US] administration

2. Fatemi fails to keep his job

• The government on Thursday withdrew the foreign affairs portfolio from Tariq Fatemi, who had been named as special assistant to the prime minister a day earlier.
• `In partial modification of this Division`s earlier notification of even number dated 20th April, 2022, the prime minister, in terms of rule 4(6) of the Rules of Business, 1973, read with serial number 1A of Schedule V-A of the said Rules, has been pleased to withdraw the portfolio of `Foreign Affairs` from Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, and grant the status of minister of state, read a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.
• No new portfolio had been assigned to him till the filing of this report

3. Unicef to set up oxygen plants at Punjab, KP hospitals

• Under a mega project, the United Nations International Children`s Emergency Fund (Unicef) will establish medical oxygen plants at four districts of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
• It is said to be a pilot project to help bring down the mortality rate particularly among under five-year-old children diagnosed with pneumonia.
• According to medical experts, the pediatric pneumonia is the single largest infectious cause of death in children worldwide and the lack of oxygen among children has further doubled the death rate

4. Miftah in US for IMF talks, blames PTI for ruining economy

• Newly-appointed Finance Minister Miftah Ismail arrived in Washington on April 21, 2022 evening to attend the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
• `I am off to Washington DC to try and put back on track our IMF program that PTI and Imran Khan derailed, endangering our economy,` Mr Ismail said in a tweet.
• `And more happily, after 3 years of being on the exit control list, I will get to travel to London on the way and meet my leader Mian Nawaz Sharif,` he added.
• The Pakistan Embassy in Washington said Mr Ismail will spend four days in the US capital, attending IMF and World Bank meetings. He will also discuss the continuation of a bail-out package with the IMF. He may also have bilateral meetings with US officials

5. FATF begins review of terrorist financing, money laundering

• Ministers and officials from the Financial Action Task Force`s (FATF) 37-member countries and affiliates met in Washington on April 21,2022 to discuss actions to tackle money laundering and terrorist financing.
• The meeting will decide FATF`s strategic direction for the next performance assessment of the countries on its watch list. Pakistan is also on this so-called grey list of countries that are still monitored for terrorist financing and money laundering activities within their jurisdictions.
• The discussions are part of the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the Board of Governors of World Bank Group that are held annually in Washington

6. Pindi-Multan train service launched

• Pakistan Railways on Thursday launched Thal Express which will operate between Rawalpindi and Multan on public-private partnership.
• Divisional Superintendent Inamullah inaugurated the train along with the Imran Enterprises team. The Thal Express has the capacity to carry more than 700 passengers at a time with seven coaches for the economy class. It will reach Multan from Rawalpindi in 15 hours. The private company will manage the operation under outsource policy of the Pakistan Railways

7. Aziz Ugaili appointed Balochistan chief secretary

• Abdul Aziz Ugaili, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, has been appointed new chief secretary of Balochistan.
• According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Wednesday, Mr Ugalli will replace Mathar Niaz Rana.
• Mr Ugaili was working as additional secretary (incharge) at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives. He has served in diffident capacities in Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad. He has also worked in Pakistan`s missions abroad for eight years as trade commissioner in Australia, as community welfare attaché in Saudi Arabia, and as first secretary and commercial counsellor in Malaysia.

8. Putin claims victory in Mariupol

• Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed victory in the biggest battle of the Ukraine war on April 21, 2022, declaring the port of Mariupol `liberated` after nearly two months of siege, despite hundreds of defenders still holding out inside a giant steel works.
• In a televised meeting with his defence minister inside the Kremlin, Putin said there was no need for a final confrontation with the last defenders who were boxed in after surviving nearly two months of Russia`s siege.
• `I consider the proposed storming of the industrial zone unnecessary,` he told Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu in a televised meeting at the Kremlin. `I order you to cancel it

9. Biden unveils $800m in military aid for Ukraine

• US President Joe Biden pledged $800 million in more weaponry for Ukraine on April 21, 2022 and said he would ask Congress for more money to help bolster support for the Ukrainian military as it faces a fresh onslaught by Russia on its eastern flank.
• Addressing Americans from the White House`s Roosevelt Room, Biden pledged to send heavy artil1ery, dozens of howitzers, and 144,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as tactical drones, as he called on Congress for supplemental funding to provide additional aid for Kyiv.
• Biden also announced $500 million in direct economic assistance to the Ukrainian government as it battles to save the lives of people under siege by Russian forces

10. Johnson in India for hard sell on anti-Russia action

• UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in India on April 21, 2022 touting job-creating investment but facing long odds to get his reluctant counterpart Narendra Modi to back Western action against Russia.
• Johnson arrived in Gujarat-Modi`s home state and the ancestral home to half of the United Kingdom`s British Indians where he is meeting business leaders and taking a cultural tour of the historic Ahmedabad city.
• He will leave for New Delhi to meet his Indian counterpart on Friday, providing Johnson some respite from the `party gate` controversy over his criminal violation of pandemic lockdown rules
