1. Soldier, five civilians martyred in firing from across LoC

• A Pakistan Army soldier and five civilians, including a toddler and a teenage girl, were martyred and another 33 civilians and five soldiers wounded along the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir after Indian army resorted to `indiscriminate and unprovoked` shelling on November 13, 2020, targeting mainly the civilian areas in AJK, civil and military officials said.
• The casualties, about 90 per cent of which took place in Neelum Valley and the rest in Nauseri sector in Muzaffarabad district and Reshian area of Leepa Valley, were reminiscent of the losses occurring in the last week of July 2019 in the same areas when Indian army had also used the banned cluster ammunition.


2. Faisalabad, Lahore surpass Delhi as most polluted cities

• Smog levels reached hazardous levels on November 13, 2020 as Faisalabad and Lahore topped the world`s most polluted cities index, followed by New Delhi.
• The overall air quality of Lahore was recorded as 321 with a high concentration of PM2.5 of 270 micro grammes per cubic metre, which is the most damaging of the particulate matter in the air and is absorbed directly into the bloodstream and impacts organs.
• Faisalabad ranked even worse with 440 US air quality index (AQI)


3. Punjab notifies abolition of two-finger test

• The Punjab government has notified abolition of an old practice called two-finger test (TFT) for examination of women rape survivors following a challenge made in two public-interest petitions heard by the Lahore High Court (LHC).
• `The competent authority has been pleased to notify the revised guidelines and proforma for medicolegal examination of female survivors/victims of sexual assault for implementation in all public sector hospitals/institutions in Punjab with immediate effect,` states a notification issued by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department.
• Additional Advocate General Jawad Yaqoob submitted the notification before the court along with the new guidelines set for the examination of the women victims of rape.


4. Commissioning ceremony of Pakistan Navy Ship Tabuk held in Romania

• Commissioning ceremony of Pakistan Navy Ship TABUK was held at Black Sea port of Constanta, Romania, according to the Pak Navy officials.
• Contract for two Corvettes for Pakistan Navy was signed between Ministry of Defence Production Pakistan and M/s DAMEN, Romania.
• First ship of class, PNS YARMOOK was commissioned earlier this year, whereas, PNS TABUK has also joined Pakistan Navy Fleet. PNS TABUK is a multipurpose and highly-adaptive platform of medium size and tonnage. The ship is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic warfare, anti-ship and anti-air weapons/ sensors along with modern self-protection and terminal defence systems


5. Dogar appointed SAPM on political affairs

• Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed a leader of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and its chief whip in the National Assembly, Malik Mohammad Amir Dogar, as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Political Affairs.
• The Prime Minister Office issued a notification to this effect on November 13, 2020.
• After appointment of Mr Dogar as the prime minister`s special assistant, the total number of the federal cabinet`s members has risen to 52 27 federal ministers, three ministers of state, 17 SAPM and five advisers


6. KP chief minister is country`s richest MPA

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, who happens to be the only declared billionaire in the province`s legislature, is also the wealthiest MPA in the country, with the worth of his total assets coming to Rs2.38 billion.
• According to statements of assets of members of the provincial assemblies (MPAs) for the financial year ending on June 30, 2019, Mr Khan, who was elected from PK-09 (Swat), owns agricultural property worth Rs2.33bn and has Rs40 million in cash and Rs7.7m in two bank accounts.
• However, he owns no car.


7. Vaccine alliance secures $2bn to fund Covid shots for poor nations

• A facility set up by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the GAVI vaccine group has exceeded an interim target of raising more than $2 billion to buy and distribute Covid-19 shots for poorer countries, but said it still needs more.
• The GAVI alliance said on Friday that the funds for an advance market commitment (AMC) will allow the COVAX facility to buy an initial one billion vaccine doses for 92 eligible countries which would not otherwise be able to afford them.


8. PSL 2020 playoffs get underway today

• All eyes will be on Karachi’s National Stadium as the much-awaited Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 playoffs get underway today (November 13, 2020) afternoon with the table-toppers Multan Sultans taking on Karachi Kings in the Qualifier.
• The tournament returns to action after an eight-month gap, as it was postponed on March 17 due to Covid-19 pandemic. Until then, cricket fans, both in Pakistan and across the world, had remained glued to the riveting T20 action that saw some nail-biters with the fight for the four playoff spots going down to the wire. The 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi edged past defending champions Quetta Gladiators on net run-rate to sneak through to the playoffs by grabbing the fourth spot, while Islamabad United, the two-time champions, finished their campaign on the last spot on the table.


9. England beat Ireland for the first time since 1985

• England beat Ireland for the first time since 1985 as goals by Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured a 3-0 win in a friendly at an empty Wembley Stadium on November 12, 2020.
• Maguire, wearing the captain`s armband, headed his side in front after 18 minutes and Sancho`s fine finish put the hosts in cruise control before half time.
• England created numerous chances but Calvert Lewin`s penalty was the only addition to the score as the hosts impressed ahead of Nations League clashes against Belgium and Iceland


10. Veteran lawmaker Jam Madad Ali passes away

• Senior PPP politician and member of the Sindh Assembly Jam Madad Ali Khan passed away on November 13, 2020. He was 58.
• A close family member said that Jam Madad was found Covid-19 positive more than a month ago, but he recovered after a couple of weeks and tested negative for coronavirus.
• However, he suffered post-disease complications and his arteries ruptured leading to fatal complications.
