1. Five security men martyred in separate attacks

• Five security personnel embraced martyrdom in gunfight with terrorists and blasts in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces on November 13, 2021, officials said.
• Having received intelligence about the presence of externally supported terrorists in surrounding areas of Turbat, security forces conducted an operation in the Hoshab area of Balochistan.
• According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) release, an engagement ensued in which terrorists suffered heavy losses


2. Federal govt transfers Rs807.5b to four provinces under NFC Award in first quarter

• Federal government has transferred Rs807.5 billion to the four provinces under National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, which enabled the provinces to generate massive budget surplus in first quarter (July to September) of the current fiscal year.
• Federal government has transferred 23 percent of the annual amount in July to September period of the ongoing financial year. The centre was supposed to transfer 25 percent in first quarter. However, despite surpassing its tax collection target, the federal government has not transferred 25 percent of the annual amount in first three months of the present fiscal year. The four provinces would receive Rs3.41 trillion from the centre under the divisible pool in next financial year


3. US Navy Ship visits Karachi, conducts drills with Pakistan Navy

• United States of America (USA) Navy Ship USS PEARL HARBOR visited Karachi port on November 13, 2021 and conducted naval exercise with Pakistan Navy.
• On arrival the Ship was received by officials of US Embassy and Pakistan Navy, said a Pakistan Navy media release.
• Pakistan and US Navy were partners in peace and striving to achieve safe and secure maritime milieu and trade. The visit of US Ship included harbour and sea phases. In harbour phase table top discussions on professional matters and bilateral interactions were held. Whereas sea phase included various seamanship and warfare drills. US Navy Ship visit to Karachi and joint naval drills was a testimony of PN resolve to work towards regional peace and it may further strengthen mutual collaboration between the two navies


4. COP26 deal reached as nations rally to compromise

• Nearly 200 nations came together on November 13, 2021 on a global deal to combat climate change after two weeks of painful negotiation, but fell short of what science says is needed to contain dangerous temperature rises.
• Rich countries stood accused of failing at the COP26 summit in Glasgow to deliver much-needed finance to vulnerable states that are at risk of drought, rising seas, fire and storms.
• Britain`s COP26 president Alok Sharma rounded up the marathon negotiations telling delegates: `It is now decision time. And the choices you are set to make are vitally important


5. Delhi shuts schools as pollution emergency looms

 

• Authorities in New Delhi announced on November 13, 2021 a one-week closure of schools as the Indian capital`s pollution control body warned of a looming health emergency due to smog.
• `Starting Monday, schools are being shut so that children don`t have to breathe polluted air,` Delhi`s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal told reporters in the megacity of 20 million people.
• Delhi is ranked one of the world`s most polluted cities, with a hazardous melange of factory and vehicle emissions and smoke from agricultural fires turning its air a toxic grey every winter


6. Vietnam welcomes first foreign tourists in nearly 20 months

• The first international tourists touched down in Vietnam almost 20 months after the Southeast Asian nation closed its borders to contain the coronavirus.
• Two charter flights brought more than 400 South Korean and Japanese fully vaccinated passengers from Seoul and Tokyo on Thursday to the southern resort city of Nha Trang, state media reported.
• The area is popular with golfers, beach lovers and scuba divers, and boasts luxury hotels


7. Russia has ‘nothing to do’ with Belarus-Poland border crisis: Putin

• Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 13, 2021 denied claims Moscow is helping to orchestrate a crisis that has left hundreds of migrants from the Middle East trapped on the Belarus-Poland border. Blaming Western policies in the Middle East for the crisis, Putin hit back at claims from Poland and others that Russia is working with Belarus to send migrants to the border of the European Union.
• “I want everyone to know. We have nothing to do with it,” he said in an interview with state television broadcast Saturday. Putin said European leaders needed to talk to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to resolve the crisis and that “as I understand it” German Chancellor Angela Merkel was ready to do so. “We should not forget where these crises associated with migrants came from… Western countries themselves, including European countries,” he said.


8. Saudi Arabia launches first women`s football league

• The Saudi football federation on November 13, 2021 said it was launching the first edition of a women`s league later this month.
• Women`s sport was long frowned upon in conservative Saudi Arabia.
• But the November 22 launch is part of a programme set up by the Saudi Arabia Football Federation in 2017 to support women`s football. According to the federation, the new women`s league will be playing in two phases within the regional league.
• Sixteen teams will take part in the first phase with games played in three cities the capital Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam


9. Veteran TV artist Sohail Asghar passes away

• Renowned television actor Sohail Asghar passed away on November 13, 2021 after a protracted illness, his family members said.
• They said his health started deteriorating after he underwent a surgery about a year ago.
• His funeral prayers will be held in Bahria Town on Sunday (today).
• Born in Multan in 1954, Sohail Asghar started his career in the mid-70s from Radio Pakistan`s Lahore station after completing his education. He was encouraged by artist Ajmal Khan who supported him in getting work at the radio station.

• Kane Williamson’s New Zealand eye a second global crown in a single year when they take on Australia at the Twenty20 World Cup final that will witness a new winner today (November 14, 2021).
• New Zealand and Australia renew their trans-Tasman rivalry in Dubai as both teams look to clinch their maiden world title in the shortest format. It’s a hat-trick of ICC finals for the once perennial underdogs of world cricket after they outplayed India to win the inaugural Test championship in June. They beat favourites England in the semi-final to avenge their 2019 defeat in a dramatic 50-over World Cup final at Lord’s when they went down on boundary count after a super over
