6. Pakistan floods `10th costliest disaster` in a decade

• THE calamitous Pakistan floods of 2022 were the tenth most expensive climate disaster to have buffeted a nation over the last decade, according to risk modelling firm RMS.
• The floods inflicted an estimated loss of $3 billion on the country, caused over 1,700 deaths and displaced eight million people.
• Poor countries like Pakistan, which saw around eight million people displaced, of ten bear the brunt of devastating weather events, RMS said in its observation.
• The firm carried out a survey to rank the 10 biggest natural disasters to have hit humanity over the last decade.


7. Lahore most polluted city in world for third day

• The capital of Punjab was listed as the most polluted city in the entire world with terrible air quality for the third straight day On November 15, 2022.
• The AQI US was 279 at 9am, when the worst air quality was recorded, according to iqair.com, a website that tracks global air quality.
• Individual areas of Lahore fared worse, with Lahore American School 289, CERP office 275, Block K 242, Phase 8 DHA 236, US Consulate in Lahore 235, Chatta Park 226, Syed Maratib Ali Road 225, Block B1 211, Dawn Bread Kot Lakhpat 211, and Venus Housing Society Main Blvd 211.
• In the AQI ranking of world cities, Lahore was followed by Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and Kolkata, India

8. Ukraine missile caused blast by accident, says Poland

• Western leaders played down fears on November 16, 2022 that a deadly missile blast in eastern Poland could herald a dangerous escalation in the war Russia launched against Ukraine, blaming stray antiaircraft fire.
• Poland and NATO said the explosion was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defence missile launched to intercept a Russian barrage, but that Moscow was ultimately to blame for starting the conflict. Two people were killed on Tuesday when at least one missile hit a village in NATO member Poland near the Ukrainian border, during a mass Russian bombardment aimed at civilian infrastructure inside Western-backed Ukraine. Both the Western leaders at the G20 summit in Bali and NATO ambassadorsin Brussels called emergency meetings, amid fears the blasts were a Russian strike that might force the allies to respond

9. Kuwait executes seven people, first since 2017

• Kuwait put seven people to death for murder on November 16, 2022, the public prosecutions service said, as the first executions since 2017 went ahead despite appeals from a prominent rights group.
• One Ethiopian woman and one Kuwaiti woman were among those hanged, along with three Kuwaiti men, a Syrian and a Pakistani, a statement said.
• The executions are the first since January 25, 2017, when the oil-rich Gulf country also hanged a group of seven people, including one member of the royal family

10. Nasa rocket Artemis lifts off for the Moon

• Nasa launched the most powerful rocket ever built on a journey to the Moon on November 16, 2022, in a spectacular blaze of light and sound that marked the start of the space agency`s new flagship programme, Artemis.
• The 32-storey tall Space Launch System (SLS) blasted off from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida at 01:47am (0647 GMT), producing a record 8.8 million pounds (39 mega newtons)of thrust.
