1. Two killed in blast targeting FC troops in Panjgur
• Two passersby were killed and three security personnel injured in a bomb blast in Panjgur town of Makran division on October 31, 2021.
• Police said unidentified people parked an explosive laden motorbike in the Cheetkan Bazaar area which was detonated by remote control when a Frontier Corps vehicle reached there. Two people were killed and three FC soldiers travelling in the vehicle suffered injuries.
• Security personnel rushed to the area and cordoned it off. They shifted bodies and the injured to the district hospital
2. Lahore second in world for poor air quality
• The provincial capital on October 31, 2021 again ranked second among the top five cities with bad air quality in the world.
• The first on the list is India’s Delhi while Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek is on third, India’s Kolkata fourth and China’s Beijing is the fifth city, according to air pollution data released by the US Air Quality Index.
• The city recorded a particulate matter (PM) rating of 188 that classifies the city under the “unhealthy” category of air quality.
• The United States Environmental Protection Agency regards air quality satisfactory if the AQI is under 50
3. PIA starts regular flights to Najaf
• Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has launched regular service to Iraq, as the First scheduled flight of the national carrier, which had departed for Najaf on Oct 30, returned to Karachi on October 31, 2021 morning.
• PIA had been previously operating special nights to Najaf.
• When the first scheduled flight (PK-219) of the national carrier with Iraqi Ambassador Hamid Abbas Lufta and PIA CEO Arshad Malik among 91 passengers aboard landed at Najaf, it was given a water cannon salute by crash tenders with powerful cannons on taxiway at the airport
4. Pakistan Navy participates in multinational exercise
• Pakistan Navy (PN) recently participated in Nusret 2021, a multinational special operations exercise, at Canakkale, in Turkey.
• According to a PN press release, the exercise featured the PN Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team with teams of other countries under the auspices of Turkish authorities.
• Teams from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, Iraq, Libya, Oman, South Korea, Romania and Tanzania also participated in the exercise
5. `Pakistan to see inflation if Afghanistan suffers humanitarian crisis`
• Pakistan could see further inflation and increase in food prices if any humanitarian crisis occurred in Afghanistan.
• `Pakistan ought to adopt a more careful approach towards Afghanistan as the situation in the neighbouring country since change of regime in Kabul has opened a Pandora`s box of strategic and security concerns for it,` the research study prepared by Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS) underlined on October 31, 2021.
• The First Quarterly Monitoring Report, `Perspectives from Pakistan on Afghan Peace and Reconciliation`, warned that Pakistan would be the first country `where inflation and food prices could pick up` further if any humanitarian crisis happened in its western neighbour
6. UN chief asks Sudan army to reverse coup
• The UN secretary general urged Sudan`s generals on Sunday to reverse their takeover of the country, a day after tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the largest pro-democracy protest since last weeks coup.
• Antonio Guterres said the generals should take heed of Saturday`s protests. Time to go back to the legitimate constitutional arrangements, he said in a tweet.
• He was referring to a power-sharing deal that established joint military-civilian rule following the ouster of longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir and his Islamist government in April 2019.
7. G20 agrees on 1.5 C target ahead of UN climate talks
• G20 leaders meeting in Rome on Sunday committed to the key goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and pledged action on the use of coal, but fell short on a target of zero emissions, according to a final draft communique.
• The pledges by the Group of 20 major economies, which emit nearly 80 per cent of world`s carbon emissions, are viewed as crucial to the success of make-or-break UN climate talks taking place in Glasgow over the next fortnight.
• According to a draft communique, which several sources said was the final version, the leaders agreed to keep in place key commitments agreed at the landmark 2015 Paris meeting
8. Taliban supreme leader makes first public appearance
• Taliban supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada addressed supporters in the southern city of Kandahar, officials announced on October 31, 2021, his first public appearance since taking control of the group in 2016.
• Akhundzada has been the spiritual chief of the movement since 2016 but has remained a reclusive figure, even after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan.
• His low profile has fed speculation about his role in the new Taliban government, formed after the group took control of Kabul in mid-August and even rumours of his death. On Saturday, he visited the Darul Uloom Hakimah to `speak to his brave soldiers and disciples`, according to the introduction to an audio recording circulated by Taliban social media accounts
9. Boult stars as NZ crush India to revive campaign
• Trent Boult led an inspired bowling attack as New Zealand revived their Twenty20 World Cup campaign with a comfortable eight-wicket win over India to leave Virat Kohli`s tournament favourites facing a desperate struggle to reach the semi-finals.
• Boult and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi shared five wickets between them as India`s much-trumpeted batters flopped for the second time after a 10-wicl(et defeat to Pakistan, reaching only 110-7 after being invited to bat first in the Super 12 clash in Dubai.
• Skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell, who made 49, put 72 runs for the second wicket as the Kiwis romped home in 14.3 overs in a lopsided Group II game
10. Afghanistan say farewell to Asghar with thumping win over Namibia
• Afghanistan bid an emotional farewell to former captain Asghar Afghan by thumping Namibia by 62 runs on Sunday to keep alive their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals.
• Asghar scored 31 as Afghanistan batted first and made 160-5 in the Group II game. Afghanistan`s seamers then took eight wickets as they restricted Namibia to 98-9.
• Hamid Hassan, making his first T20 international appearance in five years, and Naveen-ul-Haq both took three wickets
