6. Duty rationalisation on three sectors partially approved

• The government has approved partial proposals of the Tariff Policy Board (TPB) suggesting rationalisation of duty on three sectors in upcoming budget 2022-23, while dropping two major proposals for further reduction and abolition of additional customs duty (ACD) on raw materials of the export sector.
• The TPB, led by Minister for Commerce Naveed Qamar, is the recommending body to make changes in tariffs to the Ministry of Finance. The decision will be announced in the budget 2022-23 as part of the package initiated two years ago to remove all duties on raw materials, semi-finished products used in exports.
• Well-placed sources told Dawn that the finance ministry has agreed to rationalise duties on the value chain of the packaging industry, leather dyes and textile dyes. The TPB has already conducted studies on these three sectors


7. Excluded from Americas summit, Maduro visits Turkiye

• Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro arrived in Turklye on Tuesday for an official visit as other Latin American leaders gathered for a summit in Los Angeles, to which the United States did not invite him.
• The VTV channel showed footage of Maduro arriving at the airport in Ankara, where he was received by senior Turkish officials. Turkiye is an important ally of Venezuela.
• `I am delighted to start this international tour, in the lands of the sister Turkish nation,` Maduro wrote on Twitter.
• `I appreciate the warm wel-come and affection they have shown us. I am sure that we will consolidate the ties of union and cooperation between our peoples


8. Iran disconnects IAEA cameras at nuclear sites

• Iran disconnected some of the United Nations nuclear watchdog`s monitoring cameras on Wednesday, the country`s Atomic Energy Organisation said in a statement after Western nations accused Tehran of noncooperation.
• The move was announced after a resolution submitted by Britain, France, Germany and the United States to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to censure Iran, the first since June 2020 when a similar motion was adopted.
• Iran said the disconnected cameras had been operating beyond the safeguard agreement between Tehran and the IAEA.
• `As of today, the relevant authorities have been instructed to cut off the On-Line Enrichment Monitor (OLEM) and the flow metre cameras of the agency, Iran`s nuclear organisation said in statement. These cameras were operating as a `goodwill gesture` which was not `appreciated` by the IAEA, but considered an `obligation`, it added.


9. Russia has no extra oil for Indian buyers

• Russia`s Rosneft is holding back on signing new crude oil deals with two Indian state refiners, three sources with knowledge of the matter said, as it has committed sales to other customers.
• Indian refiners have been snapping up cheap Russian oil, shunned by western companies and countries since sanctions were imposed against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, which Russia calls a `special military operation`.
• A lack of new term supply deals with Rosneft may push Indian refiners to turn to the spot market for more expensive oil. It also indicates that Russia has managed to keep exporting its oil despite increasing pressure from Western sanctions to choke Moscow`s revenue
