  1. US sanctions seven Pakistani firms for `nuclear trade`
    • The Trump administration has added seven Pakistani companies to a list of foreign entities that presumably pose a significant risk to the national security and policy interests of the United States by allegedly engaging in nuclear trade.
    • The move could undermine Pakistan`s ambition of joining the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), an elite club of countries that can trade fissile materials and nuclear technologies.
    • The move forms a series of decisions aimed at putting a squeeze on Pakistan.
  2. Islamabad United reclaim PSL crown
    • Asif Ali hit three consecutive sixes of the bowling of Hassan Ali under tense conditions to help Islamabad United win Pakistan Super League 2018 title at National Stadium Karachi on March 25, 2018.
    • Islamabad United defeated holders Peshawar Zalmi by three wickets to reclaim the title they had won in the league’s inaugural edition in 2016. United achieved the 149-run target in 16.5 overs courtesy to Luke Ronchi’s another quickfire fifty this season.
    • Islamabad United besides trophy also received $600,000 while Zalmi’s received $200,000 and Karachi Kings, who finished third in the PSL got $ 100,000.
    • Ronchi declared player of the tournament was named player of the final as well for his brilliant batting display.
    • Rashid Riaz was the PSL 2018’s best umpire, while Kamran Akmal awarded the ‘best batsman’ award.
    • Kumar Sangakkara won the award for best wicketkeeper that was collected by Kamran Akmal on his behalf.
    • Faheem Ashraf’s 18 wickets earned him the ‘best bowler’ award.
    • Whereas JP Duminy got best fielder award for most catches.
  3. IDA to give $188m for meteorological, hydrological services
    • The International Development Association (IDA), the soft-loan window of the World Bank Group, will provide $188 million to modernise national meteorological and hydrological servicesin the country.
    • The project will help improve early warning systems and the level of planning and preparedness for and response to disasters. The five-yearproject involves modernisation of the observation infrastructure, data management and forecasting systems.
    • The total cost of the project has been estimated to be $210 million. The activities and investments under the project will be implemented through two federal entities. The component focusing on hydro-meteorological and climate services will be implemented by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), while the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will be responsible for implementing the second component focusing on disaster risk management in the country.
  4. Damascus`s `leave or die` tactics force Syrians to flee rebel enclave
    • Weeping Syrians boarded buses to leave a ravaged pocket of eastern Ghouta on March 25, 2018, in a new wave of evacuations to clear another part of the former rebel bastion.
    • Five weeks since the Syrian government launched an all-out assault on Ghouta, it holds more than 90 percent of the onetime opposition stronghold on the edge of Damascus.
    • To help it capture the rest, key government backer Russia has mediated talks with various rebel groups to negotiate withdrawals from the three remaining pockets.
  5. Pakistan again refuses joint operation with US
    • Pakistan has once again refused the United States’ proposal to launch a “joint operation” against the militants along the Pak-Afghan border.
    • The US was pressing Pakistan again for a joint operation in the tribal belt, which had not been accepted by Islamabad as yet.
    • One official said: “We have clearly told the US that such an operation will not be acceptable to Pakistan as it would harm the sovereignty of the country. They have been pressing for it for some months. There pressure is still there. We have made it clear that we do not need their [US] direct military presence for help.”
  6. FB runs newspaper ads apologising for data scandal
    • Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg took out full-page ads in nine major British and US newspapers on Sunday to apologise for a huge data privacy scandal.
    • “We have a responsibility to protect your information. If we can’t we don’t deserve it,” he said.
    • The ads ran in prominent positions in six British nationals, including the best-selling Mail on Sunday, The Sunday Times and The Observer – which helped break the story – as well as the New York Times, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
  7. Turkmenistan vote spotlights president’s son
    • Voting concluded in Turkmenistan’s parliamentary election March 25, 2018, the central election commission said, in a ballot that could indicate a path towards hereditary succession in the gas-rich former Soviet state.
    • The country’s election commission said that some 91.7 percent of the country’s electorate of nearly 3.3 million had cast their votes by the time polls closed – well beyond the 50 percent turnout required to validate the election.
  8. Hong Kong crowned Asian Sr Team Squash champions
    • Top seeds Hong Kong crowned 19th Asian Senior Team Squash Championship 2018 champions after thrashing sorry Pakistan 2-0 in the final held in Korea on Sunday.
    • Pakistan’s Farhan Zaman stared the proceedings against Lee Au. Although the Pakistani played well and showed fighting skills and determination, yet Lee Au was too hot to handle for Zaman, who lost the first game 9-11, lost the second 9-11 and third 7-11.
  9. Smith banned for ball-tampering, quits as captain
    • Disgraced Australia cricket captain Steve Smith was banned for one game as he and vice captain David Warner stepped down from their roles on March 25, 2018 amid a cheadng scandal that has outraged their country and threatens a far more damaging fallout for one of the game`s most exalted teams.
    • It even caused Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to ask: `How can our team be engaged in cheating like this? It beggars belief.
    • Smith, the No. 1 batsmanin Test cricket, and Warner stepped down from their leadership roles for the remainder of the third Test in South Africa following the team`s confession to cheating by tampering with the ball with a piece of yellow adhesive tape and some dirt during play.
  10. Rashid Khan became fastest bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets
    • Afghanistan’s Leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan became the fastest bowler ever to reach 100 oneday international wickets against West Indies in World Cup Qualifying Final
    • Rashid, 19, dismissed Shai Hope (WI) to take his 100th ODI wicket in only his 44th game, beating the previous record held by Australia`s Mitchell Starc by eight matches.
